About Me
Hello, I'm Lucy an illustrator from Hampshire, creating work with its feet in the soil and its head in dream and myth. I studied illustration and fairytale at university but gave it all up to become a body worker as I had an overwhelming need to help and nurture people, which I deeply enjoyed. However, 18 years later my life was thrown into a long stream of turmoil. After a period of swimming through deep loss and grief, I was finally thrown a line... my creativity! Slowly but surely, picture by picture, my world healed its wounds and I held in my hands a body of work that I felt proud enough to share. So, here it is. My path back to understanding the world again. That path brought me right back to the doorstep of my childhood love of drawing, fairy tales and nature. As a child, fairy tale, folklore and art were my long term obsessions and as I've aged, I now realise that they are still the key to limitless joy. The spirit of the earth is imbued with meaning and purpose and my work as an artist aims to draw out this magic. If the Earth speaks in myth, then she sings in art and image. My process collects plants, flowers, leaves, soil, and a little wild soul from sacred landscapes. They are boiled up in a cauldron with the paper I'd like to print on and through a magical alchemical process, the plants spill into the paper. Once dry, I ponder upon their stories and highlight the tales of this alchemical process with natural pigments and mineral inks. Welcome to a world that the earth illustrated for you. She has a message. You need to feel her, know her and listen well. I believe she has urgent stories to share and when we choose to listen carefully, we will find a deep knowing and connection with the earth. |
