Art and Illustration by Lucy Tipper
Tangled Muses is an expression of my love for nature and our wild landscapes. My images are magically crafted in a bubbling cauldron of plant materials foraged from sacred landscapes. Through this unique botanical printing method, plants dye their own story onto the page.
As an artist I highlight the messages of this alchemical process with natural pigments and mineral inks.

My Creative Process
I spend time feeling and really connecting with the landscape before carefully gathering leaves and flowers.
The plants and flowers are placed on watercolour paper and bound before boiling in an iron cauldron with some very special ingredients. This part of the process is alchemical and always feels magical. From practice, some materials work more effectively than others, but I love the experimentation and feeling of not totally knowing what is going to happen!
After leaving the bundle to cool, I then untie the paper and look forward to discovering the message the plants have for me today.
In the final stages, I look deeply into the dyed paper and allow the land to speak to me. Once I feel the connection, I begin to work into the paper with natural paints and inks. It's a wonderful process and I feel that it really allows the wild to express itself through me.
